Orpheum Theatre Ticket Office to Move Back to Theatre

Orpheum TheatreFIRST REPORTED 4:10pm 1/30/14 The ticket office for Galesburg’s Orpheum Theatre will be moving back to the theatre, thanks to a major financial contribution from a local businessman.

The Knox County Civic Center Authority Board voted during a special meeting Thursday to make the move, and to allow for renovations to the theatre lobby area to make that happen, thanks to financial backing from Galesburg Businessman Mark Kleine, the owner of the building the ticket office is in now at Main and Kellogg Streets.

Orpheum Executive Director Kevin Maynard tells WGIL the move was something he’s sought to do for awhile.

“Since I started here, I’ve been looking for ways to cut costs and work on the efficiency of our business, and really make the Orpheum just a more grander entity,” Maynard said. “I really think that moving us over [to the theatre] was that answer. There is cost savings associated with that, and it really makes things great over here.”

Maynard says it’s a move he didn’t think would be possible because of finances, but describes the financial offer of help from Kleine as huge.

Ticket sales could begin as soon as Monday, while Maynard says a committee will be formed to determine how to best proceed with full-blown renovations.

No formal timetable has been set.
