A barn was damaged early yesterday evening by a fire in rural Yates City.
That’s according to Elba-Salem Fire Chief John McKinty says his crews and Elmwood firefighters responded to the scene in the 2000 block of Knox Road 700 North, after receiving a call of a structure fully engulfed in flames.McKinty says they discovered a barn on the farm property was on fire, but that he and his crews were able to get the blaze out in under an hour.
McKinty says the homeowner told him heat lamps were being used in the barn, as it was housing chickens. He says the owner came home to discover the fire.
No people or animals were hurt in the blaze. McKinty says despite temperatures in the single digits, his department is lucky in that they did not have to contend with frozen hose lines or equipment.
There is little doubt that the name “Lombard” has been synonymous for centuries with generations in Galesburg.
