A popular and relatively new downtown Monmouth restaurant says it may not have been popular enough to stay open.
Olivia’s Cookie Jar and Kitchen in downtown Monmouth announced through its Facebook page Saturday it will be closing, but that an exact date has not yet been determined.Owner Rae Connolly declined to be interviewed when we contacted her yesterday, but says that the economy is to blame for the closure. She says not enough traffic into the restaurant was generated in order to meet all the costs of overhead. Connolly blames the economy in the Western Illinois region.
The bakery and restaurant has been open the last several years. It’s not clear how many employees the store has.
Connolly did thank the patrols Olivia’s did have, saying on Facebook, quote, “I take great pride and satisfaction” in the number of customers she did have.
