Guilty Plea in 2013 Shooting Case

gavelProsecutors admit the case against a Galesburg man charged for a shooting incident last year didn’t go the way they wanted it to, so they opted for a plea deal on lesser charges instead.

25-year-old Dominique McClendon was sentenced to a total of five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections during a hearing yesterday — two years on a charge of Aggravated Battery from the 2013 shooting case, and another three years on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance for a 2012 case.

Assistant State’s Attorney Elisa Tanner tells WGIL eyewitnesses and even the victim weren’t cooperative after shots were fired outside the LaMesa Inn back last March, with stories changing and contradictions coming up, which led to the plea deal.

Tanner says the incident started with a fight inside Diamond’s Bar on West Main Street and escalated into the shooting incident nearby.

The victim only received facial injuries.

The sentences are being served consecutively.
