Big Ten Head Not Sure How Union Would Change Landscape

CHICAGO (AP) — Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany says he’s not sure how the college sports landscape would change if athletes were allowed to unionize.

Delany says it’s “very hard to envision exactly how that would play out” and that the NCAA would likely get “some guidance from Congress.”

He says he could see a union being strong in some areas of the country and weak in others, and he’s not sure how it would play out in right-to-work states or how it would impact Title IX. Delany spoke on Thursday.

Former Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter and the United Steelworkers recently announced plans to form the first labor union for college athletes. Hearings before the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago to determine if they are employees by federal law concluded this week.
