A building that was damaged in storms last September may be demolished with City Council approval.
During tonight’s meeting, aldermen will consider expending about $100,000 to tear down the structure. The storms lifted the roof off the building, located at 85 North Broad Street in Galesburg.
Because the interior of the structure is exposed to the elements, further damage has been incurred since the storms.
According to City documents, a structural engineer attempted to make the building temporarily safe by preparing a brace for the structure.
The City sent the owner a 15 day notice, but without any repairs a demolition is required.
Included in the letter sent to Martin Brothers Developers, the City requested the company fix the roof, repair any loose bricks, and fix any broken windows.
The City Council will decide on the demolition during tonight’s meeting which begins at 6:30 at Galesburg City Hall.
There is little doubt that the name “Lombard” has been synonymous for centuries with generations in Galesburg.
