A West Virginia man has made another court appearance on charges accusing him of having over 100 pounds of an illegal substance in his vehicle last week.

68-year-old David Joseph made his first appearance in Knox County Circuit Court this morning since being arrested on charges including Class-X Felony counts of Cannabis Trafficking and Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, along with a Class-One felony charge of Possession of Cannabis.

Joseph, police say, was travelling down Interstate 74 near Galesburg last Monday when a traffic stop was conducted. A K-9 allegedly discovered 145 pounds of marijuana in Joseph’s 2004 GMC Yukon — an amount police claim has a street value of between $300-thousand and $500-thousand.

Joseph was granted a public defender today by Judge Stephen Mathers, after claiming he’s retired after being self-employed, most recently owning some tanning salons until he sold them.

Public Defender Jim Harrell will join Joseph when he appears back in court Friday morning.

For now, Joseph remains held in the Knox County Jail on 150-thousand dollars bond.
