Search Continues For Missing Bernadotte Man

Rescue efforts moved into its second week for a Bernadotte man believed to be lost somewhere along the Spoon River.

Floyd Belless went missing a week ago after the boat he was traveling in capsized.

Rescue crews came up empty handed Monday evening before suspending their search due to hazardous weather.

According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Belless was trying to recover items from his flooded home when his boat capsized and Belless was thrown from the craft.

On Thursday, an Illinois Conservation Officer located Belless’ boat with the use of a metal detector.

The search for Belless was called Thursday afternoon and picked up again Friday morning.

Search dogs were brought in form the Saint Louis area along with the McLean County Emergency Management Agency to continue search efforts.

Crews utilized a back hoe to remove ice from the area they were searching, but as of 5  p.m. Friday night, crews were unable to locate Belless, calling the search for the evening.

Efforts will resume as the flood waters recede and weather conditions improve.
