They called it a “snow breaking” since the ground wasn’t clearly visible, but Black Hawk College was still able to accomplish their mission.
A brand new 15-thousand square foot welding and skilled trades center is being constructed in Kewanee near the College’s Community Education Center.
Vice President for East Campus at Black Hawk College Chanda Dowell tells WGIL the college thought moving the trades center would be best for the future of the program.
“The population that we serve at our Community Education Center we felt would be a population that maybe would be interested in the program and future skilled trade programs that we offer at the facility and it gave us some better visibility for this facility in town,” says Dowell.
Dowell says the land for the new facility was donated to the college by the City of Kewanee.
She says construction is slated to begin later this month with a projected finish date of December–making the center ready for students in January 2015.
