The search for a missing Bernadotte man that began two weeks ago is now officially over.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the body of 66 year old Floyd Belless was found about 100 yards away from where he was last seen in Bernadotte. Authorities believe Belless tried to access his flooded home on the evening of February 24-th when the boat he was traveling in capsized and he was thrown from the craft.
On February 27-th Illinois Conservation Police located Belless boat with the use of a metal detector, but Belless was not found and the search was suspended.
Belless’ body was recovered this afternoon by an Illinois Conservation Police Officer. Throughout the two-week search several rescue teams helped assist including search dogs from the Saint Louis area.
According to Fulton County Sheriff’s the partial ice melt over the last few days allowed officers to see Belless’ body.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and the Coroner’s office assisted with the recovery.
