SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Brayden Carlson scored 13 points as No. 3 seed South Dakota State beat sixth-seeded Western Illinois 71-50 on Sunday in the Summit League quarterfinals.
Jordan Dykstra added 12 points and 10 rebounds for South Dakota State. Chad White and Marcus Heemstra had 10 apiece.
South Dakota State held a 26-23 lead at halftime. Zach Horstman’s dunk gave the Jackrabbits their first double-digit lead of the game, which they held for the remainder. A 10-0 run, all scored by Carlson and Dykstra, made in 51-31.
Western Illinois was led by Garret Covington with 14 points. Jabari Sandifer had 13 and Michael Ochereobia 10.
The Jackrabbits outrebounded Western Illinois 38-26 and went to the free throw line 31 times, making 23 of them, compared to 16 attempts.
South Dakota State advances to play No. 2 seed Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in the semifinals on Monday.
