At this time the state of Illinois does not have any money set aside for library construction grants, but the Library Board of Trustees is still working to make sure when money becomes available they’ll be ready.
The board approved a resolution that creates a dedicated fund for library construction.
Board President Martin Reichel tells WGIL the money being transferred will be used to show the state they have the needed matching funds.
“This is for demonstrating a match — the local match — funds we have to raise in order to get the grant,” Reichel said. “25 percent of the total [needs to be raised]; 75 percent [from the state] if the money is appropriated.”
Reichel says the board approved to move a little more than $700,000 to the new construction fund.
He says the fund originally had about 160-thousand-dollars in it before the transfer bring the total to around $800,000.
