Galesburg Police are investigating several vehicle break-ins reported on Monday evening, but leaving very little stolen. Four of the incidents occurred between Harrison and Willard Streets in Galesburg.
In all but one of those incidents, victims reported their vehicle being broken into and often with papers in the glove compartment out of place.
Nothing particularly valuable had been stolen – leading police to file criminal trespass charges.
Only loose change had been taken from the lone vehicle entered in the area. Several of the victims noted their surprise that nothing had been stolen considering there were items of value present.
Across town in the area of Cecelia Drive and Justin Street in Galesburg, two additional motor vehicle burglaries were reported on Monday.
In these two cases, police cited that cologne and candy had been stolen. Officers responding to the scene, however, were able to collect evidence from each break-in scene.
An investigation continues. Anyone with information should call the Galesburg Police or Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers.
