Dillard: 'Never say never' On Future Campaigns

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) — State Sen. Kirk Dillard says he’s looking forward to spending time with his family and at his law practice after narrowly losing to Bruce Rauner in Tuesday’s GOP primary election.

The Republican from Hinsdale has ruled out a third run for governor, but says “never say never” when asked if he would seek another office. He argues that his campaign’s reaching out for union support offers the best model for the state Republican party going forward.

Dillard’s senate term expires at the end of this year. He’s spent 20 years in the chamber. He’s also worked on the staffs of Govs. Jim Edgar and Jim Thompson.

Dillard said he was proud of the way he came close to beating Rauner with much less money, proving many pollsters wrong.
