Immigration Activist Arellano Returns To Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) — The Mexican activist who holed up in a Chicago church for a year to protest her deportation is returning to the city.

Elvira Arellano will speak Sunday at Lincoln United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. She will be accompanied by her sons Saul and Emiliano.

Arellano will speak against the separation of families through deportation and ask President Barack Obama to extend deferments he gave to DREAM Act children and parents of children who are U.S. citizens.

A 3 p.m. prayer service is scheduled at Adalberto United Methodist Church. That’s the church that provided her and Saul sanctuary for a year while she defied a 2002 deportation order. She left the church and was deported in 2007.
