Man Sentenced To Jail For Sexual Solicitation

A Galesburg man got out of a prison sentence after pleading guilty almost two months ago to a felony charge of Indecent Solicitation of a Child.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge Paul Mangieri this afternoon said he reluctantly agreed to a joint prosecution and defense recommendation for 31-year-old Clarence Jennings to serve 180 days in the Knox County Jail with credit for time served, along with 30-months of probation for the Class-Two felony charge.

Jennings was arrested in July of last year, after a then-15-year-old girl told police she was asked to undress and participate in a sex act between Jennings and another woman.

Jennings, who is classified as paranoid schizophrenic but was found mentally fit to stand trial in this case, apologized for his actions.

Mangieri said based on what he read of the case, had there not been a joint sentencing recommendation, he’d have been inclined to sentence Jennings to prison.

He could have received as much as seven years.

Jennings was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with anyone else under 18, and — among other things — can’t use social media.

A case in juvenile court involving the victim in this case remains pending.
