Officer Charged In 95-Year-Old Man's Death

PARK FOREST, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago police officer faces a felony charge in the death of a 95-year-old man shot with a bean-bag gun last year.

Park Forest police officer 43-year-old Craig Taylor is charged with felony reckless conduct. Cook County prosecutors say the charge is in connection with the death of World War II veteran John Wrana last July at an assisted living facility in Park Forest.

Police say an officer shot Wrana in the stomach with a bean-bag gun after the man allegedly confronted officers with a butcher knife, cane and shoehorn. Police say an officer fired after police were unable to subdue him.

The Cook County medical examiner ruled Wrana’s death a homicide.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Taylor had an attorney. He was due in bond court Wednesday.
