MONTROSE, Iowa (AP) _ Supporters of a ferry that would go back and forth between Iowa and Illinois say they’re waiting for approval from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Randy Douglas of Nauvoo River Experience says the approval is necessary to build the boat. It would then cross the Mississippi River between the Iowa city of Montrose and the Illinois city of Nauvoo.
Nauvoo River Experience has a five-year lease with both Montrose and Nauvoo to dock the ferry and let passengers get on and off. The company also wants to offer transportation to Nauvoo’s historic downtown and other trips.
Douglas tells the Hawk Eye that it will take 60 days to build the vessel once the Coast Guard approves it. He hopes it will be in service later this summer.
