2 IL Men Arrested in Deer Death

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says two men have been arrested on preliminary charges of illegally hunting and killing a deer.

The DNR said Wednesday that an Illinois Conservation officer on patrol saw the deer being shot from a road at night in November 2012 at Champaign County’s Middle Fork Preserve. The agency says the men who shot the deer sped away across a field and through timber.

DNR spokesman Chris Young says a man from Rantoul and another from nearby Armstrong were arrested in late March. Both are 22. It isn’t clear whether they have attorneys.

The potential charges are misdemeanors. They include hunting with the aid of a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm from a roadway and attempting to take a deer after hunting hours.
