$100,000 is the bond set in the case of a California man arrested over the weekend in after drugs were found in his possession on an Amtrak Train.
Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 40-year-old Elton Ward appeared for the first time in court today with his public defender, on charges which include a Class-X felony count of Cannabis Trafficking, along with lesser felonies of Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, and Possession of Cannabis Greater than 5,000 Grams.
Galesburg Police reports indicate officers were conducting drug interdiction efforts Saturday at the Amtrak depot when a search of Ward’s sleeper car allegedly turned up over seven pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags.
Police believe Ward was headed to Chicago in order to take the drugs to Saint Louis, where the pot is suspected of having a street value nearly 35-thousand dollars.
Authorities believe Ward has an extensive drug-related criminal history.
