Attorney Appointed for Man Accused of Arson

Blake WalshA Williamsfield man accused of setting dozens of fires believed to be arsons has been appointed a public defender in the case.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge Scott Shipplett today granted 24-year-old Blake Walsh a Public Defender, and appointed Jim Harrell to the case.

Walsh was arrested last Wednesday, initially on a warrant charging him with arson. Since then, charges of Arson and Criminal Damage to Property have been filed against him in five separate felony cases.

Prosecutors say Walsh allegedly set fire to contents in a dumpster behind a retailer in the Seminary Square Shopping Center. But authorities believe he also set two dozen hay bales on fire in various incidents in the Williamsfield area between this month and November of last year.

Walsh — a volunteer firefighter in Williamsfield according to Knox County Sheriffs Department officials — is being held in the Knox County Jail on 250-thousand dollars bond. He’s set to appear in court again next Monday afternoon for a first appearance with counsel.
