Springfield Clerk Provides Lincoln Funeral Papers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Springfield city clerk has given reproductions of historic documents to a group planning a re-enactment for next year’s 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s funeral.

One of the documents given to the 2015 Lincoln Funeral Coalition is a copy of a handwritten record of a unanimous Springfield City Council vote to spend $20,000 to help pay for Lincoln’s funeral in Springfield.

The State Journal-Register reports the clerk’s office on Thursday gave the group digital reproductions of three other documents related to preparations for the president’s funeral.

Katie Spindell is chair of the funeral coalition. She says she hopes the group can display them.

The clerk’s office also is giving copies to the Ford’s Theatre Society in Washington.
