CHICAGO (AP) — Meteorologists say Illinois could close out the weekend windy and likely rainy but may be spared the kind of violent weather that may hit other parts of the Midwest.
Throughout the state, the National Weather Service says it will be windy and possibly rainy Sunday, with potential thunderstorms and heavy rain Sunday night.
The most severe weather is expected in southern Illinois. The weather service in Paducah, Ky., says isolated severe storms were possible Sunday and Monday. Rainfall totals there through Tuesday are expected to be 2 to 2.5 inches. Meteorologist Mike York says those storms also could bring hail, along with wind gusts exceeding 60 mph.
In the Chicago area, Sunday was expected to be windy and perhaps rainy, with more rain and possible thunderstorms forecast overnight.
