Health Department Hosting Dental Day

The Knox County Health Department will once again be offering health services to individuals who may not otherwise receive it.

The third annual “Adult Dental Day,” however, is focused to oral care and hopes to treat at least the same number of patients they have in years past. 80 volunteers are expected at the event this Friday with help from 13 volunteer dentists and students in the dental hygiene program at Carl Sandburg College.

Health Department Administrator Heidi Britton tells the WGIL Evening News the event is first-come, first-served.

“We’ve had people out there in their cars all night waiting to get in,” says Britton. “Usually when we get there at about six in the morning there is [sic] several people already in line waiting and waiting to get out of pain.”

Two years ago, the Health Department treated more than 140 patients in need.

Health Department representatives said they were uncertain of the funding, but received help from the Galesburg Community Foundation to put on the event after taking one year off.

Patients are afforded a certain level of privacy with no payment, identification, or residency requirements.
