The annexation – which was given approval by the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission – is part of a process that involves a new Casey’s General Store.
The property owner will be selling the corner of the lot at North Seminary and Carl Sandburg Drive for Casey’s, but is hoping to develop the remaining land to include both business and residential construction.
The Galesburg City Council tonight will consider both the petition for annexation as well as the approval of an ordinance for the property. A pre-annexation agreement was recommended that details zoning on the land once it becomes the property of the City of Galesburg.
City administration believe land development will mean sales tax revenue from the businesses, and property tax revenue through home construction.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 at Galesburg City Hall.
