Back in 2012 the Knox County Health Department applied for a grant through the Health Resources and Services Administrations.
Thee grant was for a period of two years starting May first and ending April 30 20-14 meaning they needed to apply for an extension in December of 2013.
Recently KCHD Administrator Heidi Britton was informed the Health Department’s grant extension was approved.
Britton tells WGIL this is extremely good news for the health center and for the county.
“The health department is thrilled that HRSA has continued to support the federally qualified health center that we have and continue to provide the medical and dental services that we can provide to Knox County residents.”
Briton says the next grant will keep the health center funded for the next 3 years.
She says with the continuation of the grant, the health department is looking at adding mental health services to their scope.
The grant was for a little more than $700,000.
