ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP)–Two people who were in apartments adjacent to the one where four Rock Falls residents were killed with a hammer in June 2008 say they heard thuds and one heard a scream on the night of the deaths.
Chastity Gibbons and Matthew Johnson testified Tuesday in Rock Island in the trial of 34-year-old Nicholas Sheley of Sterling. He has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of 29-year-old Brock Branson; 20-year-old Kilynna Blake; her 2-year-old son, Dayan; and 25-year-old Kenneth Ulve.
According to The Rock Island Argus , Gibbons said she heard a thud and Blake saying “Oh God, don’t” in a scared voice. Gibbons tried to check on her by text but got no response.
Johnson was in another apartment. He said he heard a scream followed by loud thuds.
