Main Street was packed with parade goers waiting to see fire trucks, police and of course the veterans make their way down the street.
They all came out in celebration of Memorial day and like most holidays, Galesburg residents celebrated the only way they know how, with a parade.
For many in attendance this day is about more than just partying, but Mike DeWitt Commander of the Local VFW tells WGIL what it comes down to is being able to celebrate our freedoms with barbecues and family gatherings.
“That’s what it’s all about, that’s what were having the ceremonies to pay tribute to those who have died and served their country and those who will do it in the future hopefully.”
Several planes flew over head as bands played and families remembered their lost ones.
And of course it wouldn’t be a parade without a little candy.
