According to Nellis Management, the franchisee overseeing the location in Galesburg, employees were notified this morning. Crews are already working on the site and Nellis Board Chairman Richard Levitt says they don’t yet have plans for the site.

Around 10 employees will be affected in the move that is the result of slow sales. Levitt says products in Long John Silver’s food has negatively impacted revenue at their locations.

“Sales of our stores, we have a total of 30 plus stores, started to drift off about a year-and-a-half ago when the brand, the Long John Silver’s Brand started to receive some bad publicity regarding trans fat oil,” says Levitt.

Long John Silver’s describes itself as a quick service seafood chain.

Nellis Management says they are closing several other locations Monday, but more Long John Silver’s locations will be closing in the coming weeks.

Changes in the menu at the restaurant hope to stimulate additional sales according to Levitt. He says they hope any growth in demand will lead to a reopening of the closed locations.

He says any quality employees affected by the layoffs could be hire back in that instance.
