Knoxville Police were called to the community’s City Hall around eight o’clock this morning to a report of a break-in.
A City employee entered the building to find a window had been broken and immediately called police. Officer Don Ryner says there was evidence of a burglary and officers called the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit to aid in the investigation.
Officials say at this time, they can’t say what was taken, but an investigation is still ongoing. Ryner says a second burglary call came in around 8:40 a.m. at a local auto repair shop.
He says officers responded to that call and are also investigating the matter. However, Ryner says at this time, they do believe the two burglaries are connected.
Knoxville City Hall was closed for most of the morning, but has since resumed operations.
