Galesburg’s Newest Park Opens This Weekend

This weekend is for the dogs, or at least that’s what Melissa Powell of Project Dog Park hopes.

Project Dog Park officially opens its gates this Saturday after years of planning, followed by fundraising and construction.

Powell says the park will open at 2 o’clock with a ribbon cutting and small ceremony.

She says they’ll go over the rules of the park before the gates open. Powell tells the WGIL Morning News there’s been a lot of questions about what sort of tags dogs need in order to use the park.

“They have to have their current vaccine tags on to go to the park on Saturday,” says Powell. “After Saturday whoever doesn’t have a City tag will need a City tag. If you’re an out of town visitor, there are provisions at City Hall to get a day tag.”

Powell also says no puppies under the age of 4 months are allowed in the park. The park will have normal hours–open seven days a week from dawn to dusk.

She does advise that if you’re coming to the ceremony, to bring a lawn chair as seating is limited.
