County Board Supports Economic Development Partnership

The Knox County Board is hoping to see results from a newly formed economic development partnership.

They used a portion of their time during last night’s County Board meeting to consider a resolution supporting the initiative. The City of Galesburg decided to replace their Economic Development department with a new public-private partnership.

Organizing the partnership has led to the development of a board that includes a representative of Knox County.

County Board Chair Greg Bacon occupies that seat and tells WGIL the County has a prominent role to play.

“Anything to help the County, the City grow is a benefit to all citizens,” says Bacon. “So anything the County can do to help anything move along is a benefit to everybody.”

Bacon told other board members that he believes this is a positive move that may help the County, economically.

The County says it may be able to play a role in helping smaller communities in the area represent themselves in the economic development discussions. Bacon says the County will be keeping smaller communities in mind.

“We’ve already discussed parts of that, and we’re going to support what they’ve supported before and nobody’s going to be left out in the cold,” says Bacon.

The resolution supporting the partnership was approved with only one abstention.
