Court Appearance for Couple Charged in Church Theft

Two Kewanee residents accused of stealing money from a church based in Galesburg have made their first appearances in court.

56-year-old Sherry Currier and her 58-year-old husband Darryl both appeared this afternoon in Henry County Circuit Court. The two are charged with single Class-two felony counts of Theft of Between $10-thousand and $100-thousand.

They were arrested earlier this month, after Kewanee Police say they conducted an investigation into the theft of money from the Community of Christ Church in Galesburg.

They say the investigation revealed that over $40-thousand was taken, while Sherry Currier was allegedly the financial officer of the Galesburg branch of the church with locations in the Midwest.

The two were appointed Public Defender James Cosby, and both will be back in court next Monday afternoon for a preliminary hearing.

The two are not in custody, as they were given $10-thousand recognizance bonds.

The church is operated by the Cedar Valley/Nauvoo Mission Center.
