A Galesburg man accused of stealing money from Sandburg Mall has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 30-year-old Steven Nance pleaded guilty yesterday to a single Class-Three felony count of Theft. Nance was arrested June eighth after employees spotted Nance in Sandburg Mall’s ceiling.
Police say he had several envelopes on him totaling around seven-hundred dollars in cash — envelopes believed to be mall deposits.
Mall officials say at least $3,500 in deposits had turned up missing in May, but it’s still not clear if Nance took those. Court records say Nance was sentenced to 90-days in the Knox County Jail with credit for 24 days served, along with two years of conditional discharge.
Mall officials say additional security cameras were set up after the thefts started occurring.
Nance, at the time of his arrest, was allegedly covered in insulation material and other debris.
