Knox announced yesterday that it is the only college in Illinois that will take part in what is called “TIDES” — Teaching to Increase Diversity and Equity in STEM. STEM stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.”
Knox says throughout the next three years, faculty aill take part in determining whether or not new technology and new teaching approaches can ultimately result in increased numbers of women and minorities in such courses.
The college says in a news release that they’ve developed a number of proposals to try and address the initiative’s goals, including the creation of a course dealing with computer science and mathematics, enhancing some computer science-related courses, and other things.
The initiative is being undertaken by the American Association of Colleges and Universities. Knox won grant money in the “honorable mention” category.
