County Preparing Plans for Highway 4 Completion

The next phase of work to Knox County Highway 4 has taken its first step.

A professional services agreement was recommended to the full County board during last night’s Knox County Highway Committee meeting.

The contract would specify designs for engineering work for the eastern portion of the roadway. The remaining 2.8 miles of the Highway will likely go out to bid in 2017.

County Engineer Duane Ratterman says the project should be shovel ready.

“It’s time to get it designed and start talking to people about right-of-way,” Ratterman said.  “If we happen to get lucky enough to have some extra federal funds float our way, it would be nice to be ready.”

The agreement, if approved by the full board, would pay Hermann and Associates an amount not exceed $120,000. Engineering work will take about two years.

Ratterman says that while the project was initially being discussed in 2010 and 2011, completing the project in phases was always the goal.

The western portion of the Highway has been under construction with an expected completion for sometime this year.
