The District-205 board this evening is expected to vote on tentative budgets for the 2015 fiscal year for the district, the Galesburg-Area Vocational Center, and the Knox-Warren Special Education District.
The district projected without any cuts in their budget, deficits that could be as large as five-million dollars in the coming school years. That’s so far led to the closure of Cooke Elementary School, and the reductions in force of some staff, though many of those cut will likely be called back.
District officials say they do expect a deficit budget in the coming school year, but they have about two months to fine-tune the budget before a final approval is needed.
That will come in September, once the school year has started, and once enrollment figures are better known, which can give the district a better idea of things like state aid. Aid has been cut the last several years, and officials say the flat school state aid this year will be akin to even more cuts.
The District-205 board meets at seven o’clock tonight at Lincoln School.
