City Council To Consider Bunker Links Proposals

The Galesburg City Council could be providing some direction Monday night about Bunker Links Golf Course.

The City has considered proposals to operate the course differently in the past because landscaping and maintenance is already provided. A $1.5-million budget deficit is being faced this year – something Aldermen considered addressing during the last work session meeting.

First Ward Alderman Ken Goad tells WGIL some changes in staff may need to be made if the City operates the course.

“The contract ends at the end of this year, the current contract with the golf pro, so this is the ideal time to have this work session and explore the possibilities of what we want to do,” says Goad.

Selling the course, leasing the course, or simply taking over the operations of the golf course could be considered.

Public Works Director Larry Cox tells WGIL there could be an advantage to the revenue the course earns.

“We just think that the City operating the course itself and being able to get some revenue from the golf carts and that sort of thing will help our bottom line,” says Cox.

Monday night’s meeting begins at 5:30 at Galesburg City Hall.
