Byron, Mark

Mark “Happy” Byron, 53, of Galesburg passed away at 12:51 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born June 14, 1961 in Galesburg to Gerald and Mary Spicer Byron and married Becki Rupert on August 14, 1981 in Galesburg. She survives.

Mark is also survived by four daughters, Shawna (Justin) Jarvis, Tonya Byron, Stephanie (Jon Peel) Byron, and Traci Byron; three brothers, Dale Sargeant, Gary Sargeant, and Steven Peck; two sisters, Bambi (Mark) Good and Cathy Swearingen; and eight grandchildren, Jonus, Emma, Jacob, and Makayla Jarvis and Haylee, Kaitlynn, Hunter, and Kaiden Peel, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Randy Cooper.

Mark earned his Associate’s Degree in Radiology Technology and worked for 32 years in radiology technology with OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, most recently in the position of PACS Administrator.

Mark will be remembered as an amazing dart player who played in several leagues for the Grand Tap. He was also an avid poker player and a die-hard fan of the Chicago Bears. He was a loving grandfather who enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service. A private burial of ashes is scheduled for a later date. Memorials may be made to the family for the benefit of Mark’s grandchildren.
