Hazelbower, Debra Kay

Debra Kay Hazelbower, 60 of Altona, Illinois died at 10:03 P.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, Illinois.

She was born on September 21, 1953 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Eva (Bennett) Bainbridge. Debra attended West Jersey grade school and graduated from Toulon High School. She married Rick L Hazelbower on May 4, 2001, and he survives.

Surviving are two daughters: Rachelle Marie (Daniel) Guzman of Metamora, Illinois and Carrie Rene’e (David) Luciani of Chillicothe, Illinois; one son, Todd Lee (Shelley) Washburn of Victoria, Illinois, her mother, Eva Bainbridge of Galesburg, Illinois; her grandmother, Marie Bennett of Aledo, Illinois; her grandchildren: Brennon Scott Wiegand, Cody Michael Wiegand, Noah Daniel Guzman, Marcus Arturo Guzman, Isabella Soleil Guzman, Cameron Guinnee, Jayson Elizondo, Kaylee Elizondo, Logan Washburn, and Drake Luciani.

Also surviving are her siblings: Richard, Susan, Tina, Kim, and David; her baby dog, Siren; and her grand baby dog, Baxter.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, father, uncles, and close friends.

Debra worked for many years as a respiratory therapist at Kewanee Hospital. Jim Degroot was her mentor for her apprenticeship at Kewanee Public Hospital. She later worked at Stevens House in Galesburg.

She loved playing softball, most memorable was when she played on the “Charlie’s Angels” team. Debra also enjoyed playing pool, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. She loved caring for others and touched many people by her kind heart. Her family was very important and spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her great joy.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Interment will take place at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona Illinois. Memorials may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home or Stevens House.
