Two Killed When Struck by Metra Commuter Train

CHICAGO (AP) — A spokeswoman for the Metra commuter rail service says two people were killed when they were struck by a train headed for Chicago’s Union Station.

Meg Reile says the two unidentified victims were struck Thursday on the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe line that runs between Aurora and Chicago.

Reile says the incident occurred after the train left the La Grange station and was a mile west of the Western Ave. station. The tracks at that point are elevated.

Traffic on the BNSF line, Metra’s busiest, has been indefinitely suspended in both directions. Reile says about 25,000 commuters may be affected by the service disruption.
