Quad Cities University Sticks to Athletic Complex Plan

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A university in Iowa says it’s focused on going ahead with a planned athletic complex on a site that has drawn opposition from neighbors.

Davenport’s city council last month approved a rezoning plan for land where St. Ambrose University wants to build a 2,500-seat football stadium and track. But the mayor vetoed the plan. The council has a week to decide whether to override the veto.

The Quad-City Times reports neighbors who oppose the project have cited traffic congestion among their concerns.

Some city council members, university officials and residents who live near the proposed site gathered in a private meeting last week to discuss alternatives.

But university official Mike Poster said Thursday the school is focused on its current plan.
