HARVEY, Ill. (AP)–Officials in a Chicago suburb say two police officers have been wounded by gunfire after responding to a call of a burglary in progress.
A suspect is in a standoff with police Tuesday afternoon in the city of Harvey, about 25 miles south of Chicago.
City spokesman Sean Howard tells the Chicago Sun-Times a suspect is in a home and believed to be holding hostages.
He says an officer was responding to a 911 call when he saw someone with a gun. Howard says “there was an exchange of gunfire” and the officer was shot in the arm. He says the officer was taken to a hospital.
Mayor Eric Kellogg tells WLS-TV that a second officer was shot a short time later and suffered a graze wound to an arm.
