According to the Illinois State Police, an accident Tuesday afternoon has resulted in death.
A truck tractor was travelling in the westbound lanes of Interstate 74 just south of Woodhull, but is believed to have left the right side of the roadway. State Police say the vehicle left the roadway around 4:30 p.m. yesterday for unknown reasons and travelled into the east ditch before rolling over.
The report indicates that the driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries in the accident, but was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators say the driver may not have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The report says the lack of a seat belt likely contributed to the fatal injuries.
Drivers travelling on Interstate 74 at the time of the accident saw traffic stalled for a period of about 20 minutes while the roadway was blocked off.
The right bound lane was shut for two hours while the investigation was being conducted.
The name of the driver is not being released pending notification of the family.
