Unemployment Down In Knox County For July

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the jobless rate has been reduced in Knox County.

Knox joined the rest of Illinois’ 102 counties in seeing a decrease in non-seasonally adjusted year-over-year unemployment. According to the report, Knox County saw 7.4-percent unemployment in July, down from last year’s rate of 8.7-percent.

This is the second consecutive month unemployment rates have fallen in every county.

Much like last month, Galesburg reported jobless figures slightly higher than Knox County as a whole with 7.9-percent unemployment.

IDES Director Jay Rowell says that the reduced figures show improvement, but “more still needs to be done.”

Knox County also saw a modest uptick in its labor force from the prior year.

Around the area Stark County reported 7.5-percent unemployment, Warren County saw 6.8-percent unemployment, Henderson 5.7, Henry 6.9, Hancock 7.7-percent unemployment, McDonough 8.3 and Mercer 6.2-percent.
