Motorcycle Enthusiasts Celebrate with End of Summer Bash

A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education or ABATE, held their annual ABATE Bash out at the Knox County Fair Grounds this weekend.
The three day event has a little for everybody including a rib cook off, music, a bike show and an auction.

The event, which according to event organizer Greg Bacon starts taking form in January, is really an end of the summer party.

Bacon says they’ve been selling “little hogs” at bars around the area for their annual chip trip to the Bash where someone wins a thousand dollars cash.

But Bacon tells WGIL outside of the prize money they make sure the rest goes to local charities.

“DIG IT, Disabled Individuals Getting In Touch, and the Galesburg Youth Athletic Club. And then our third charity we rotate is the ABATE of Illinois state PAC, political action committee, we give them money and the next year after that on odd or even years we give it to the ABATE federal PAC. So we rotate that to where we give money to the PACs.”

Bacon says this year they’ve raised about $3,000 from the paper hog sales.

He says he might be changing up the chip trip just because it’s getting a little stale and something new and fresh is always good and helps bring in more money for a good cause.

This is the 33rd year for the ABATE Bash.
