Man Wanted for Murder Arrested

Christopher CroomPOSTED 12:54pm  A Chicago man wanted for the murder of a Galesburg man almost two weeks ago has been arrested.

Galesburg Police confirm through a news release that U.S. Marshalls arrested 29-year-old Christopher Croom earlier this morning in the Chicago suburb of Lake in the Hills.

In addition to First-Degree Murder, Croom was wanted on a felony count of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

Croom had been listed as wanted by authorities since the August 13th stabbing incident in the five-hundred block of West Brooks Street.

Croom had been wanted for attempted murder initially — then 49-year-old Melvin Buckner died at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Authorities believe a disturbance between the two led to the incident.

Croom will now be held in the Knox County Jail on one-million dollars bond at least until he can make an appearance in Knox County Circuit Court.
