Tuesday afternoon, a Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to pull-over the driver of a gray 2003 Cadillac for a speeding violation.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, the deputy initiated the stop in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Geneseo around 1:30 p.m, but the driver refused.
Around 2:40 p.m. that same afternoon, another deputy spotted the vehicle going west on Route 81. The deputy followed the driver who allegedly sped-off and turned south on U.S. 150 south of Orion.
Deputies say the suspect continued south and attempted to pass a 2010 Cadillac Escalade, driven by 27-year-old Amanda Jacobs of Aledo.
The driver allegedly hit Jacobs’ vehicle, sending her into a guardrail. The car then bounced off the guardrail and slid across the road hitting the west side guardrail before stopping.
According to a release, Jacobs was treated for minor injuries.
The driver then parked her car in the 100 block of West A Street in Alpha and allegedly fled on foot, causing the grade school to be on lockdown for a short period.
The suspect was apprehended by Henry County Deputies and Alpha Police two block southeast of the car.
The driver — 44-year-old Marriese Jones of Chicago — is charged with Misdemeanor Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, two counts of felony Driving on a Suspend License and a number of other charges.
Jones is being held in the Henry County Jail on $250,000 bond, and is scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing Monday afternoon.
