Now that the bid has been recommended for work to the ceiling at the Knox County Nursing Home, Illinois Department of Public Health approval is now on the minds of the County Board.
During last night’s Nursing Home and Landfill Committee meeting, the process to receive project approval with the state was discussed.
The County, after initially rejecting bids for the project, was able to slice costs in half simply by renting a portable kitchen.
Knox County Owner’s Representative Donnie Gladfelter says he doesn’t believe fines can be levied for occupying the space prior to inspection approval.
“If we didn’t meet all the requirements, I guarantee if we occupy it before the inspector, they’re going to be a lot more stringent in their review of it, but as long as we’re in compliance, nothing will be retaliated,” says Gladfelter.
While construction work will be ongoing for a few weeks, the County expressed some uncertainty over just how long they need before an inspection occurs.
The Illinois Department of Public Health could simply approve the project work, or it could take weeks before approval is granted according to the discussion.
