Comcast cable confirms that it will be closing its Galesburg payment center on North Henderson Street effective October 30th.
The city reportedly received notice earlier this week of such a closure.
Comcast Communications Director Joe Trost declined an interview, but told WGIL in an e-mail the move is being made because more and more people simply aren’t using such offices. Trost says more and more customers are paying for Comcast’s cable, phone, and internet service online and over the phone — a preference he says is “overwhelming.”
Trost says local customers should consider using Comcast’s website. They can also still pay through the mail or over the phone using a credit card.
Trost says there’s also an iPhone app where customers can get their account information, with a similar app being made available for Android smart phones.
The Galesburg Hy Vee on East Main Street still accepts Comcast and other utility payments as well, and a payment office remains open in Peoria.
Two employees in the Comcast office on Henderson, Trost says, are being offered other positions within the company, if possible.
